Writer guidelines

At Seasons of the 208, we especially love the outdoors. We're looking for compelling, first-person stories of adventures and experiences in Idaho, as well as poetry for our "Ode to Idaho" section.

We are also looking for one "My Idahome" essay, one short essay under the heading "More than Potatoes" (regarding something you're passionate about in Idaho), and one opinion piece. We will not publish extremely controversial subjects, including politics or religion.

Before submitting articles for consideration, please familiarize yourself with our magazine by visiting seasonsofthe208.com to see samples, or purchase copies at Albertsons, Fred Meyer, Walmart, or other outlets as listed under the locations tab in the upper right.

For consideration, new writers should submit samples of their work to Editor Ken Levy at kenlevymedia@gmail.com. Previously published writers preferred.

We require first North American serial rights to publication, including online publishing. Once your piece is published, the rights to the piece revert to you after one year.

We reserve the right to edit for clarity, punctuation, grammar, sentence and paragraph structure and placement, and length. We ask that you understand the following:

• Accuracy is everything in stories containing facts. Writers are responsible for fact-checking information in their stories, including the spelling of all proper names. While our vigorous editing program helps ensure accuracy, it is the writer's credibility at stake if an incorrect piece of information is published. Please be sure your sources are credible.

• Do not copy and paste information from a source for a story. Using information verbatim from any source is not allowed in any case, unless you are directly quoting the source(s). Use attribution freely.

• Include a suggested headline with your story, above your byline. Keep it brief and concise. Caption/credit information for photos you submit can go above the headline. Limit captions to one sentence if possible.

Do not submit any AI-generated story content. AI stories are like factory restaurant food: bland, often tasteless, formulaic and usually obvious. They also may plagiarize existing information, which is strictly forbidden in this magazine.

If you are selected to write for us, you will be assigned a word count appropriate to each piece. Please adhere to this amount as closely as possible. If you must, you can go briefly over the allotted word count, subject to editing.

If your story is selected for publication, you are welcome to submit images to accompany your piece, however, please do not source images from the web or stock agencies. Decisions on image use will be determined by the publisher. Send low-res jpgs (not more than 10) for consideration to Publisher Linda Lantzy at idahoscenics@gmail.com. Visit seasonsofthe208.com/photographer-application for more information.

Assigned stories may be held until a later edition if space and other considerations warrant it.

We do not pay kill fees.

Payments are made in the month following publication. Payment structure is subject to change between issues. Adequate notification will be provided.

For more information and assistance in composing your stories, contact Editor Ken Levy at kenlevymedia@gmail.com or Publisher Linda Lantzy at idahoscenics@gmail.com.
